Touch Trauma Therapy
Trauma Touch Therapy®, (TTT), developed by Kathy Kain, PhD., is a body-oriented therapeutic approach designed to help individuals who have experienced trauma reconnect with their bodies in a safe, supportive way. It combines gentle, non-invasive touch with somatic awareness techniques to support the release of trauma held in the body.
Trauma Touch Therapy Involves
Non-invasive, Attuned Touch
Practitioners use subtle, respectful touch to help clients increase body awareness and foster a sense of safety.
Nervous System Regulation
The work supports balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic responses, helping clients shift out of chronic states of fight, flight, or freeze.
Tracking Sensations
Clients are guided to notice internal physical sensations, which can promote emotional integration and healing.
Relational Safety
The therapeutic relationship and the use of “touch with consent” serve as a foundation for restoring trust in bodily experiences.
This work is capable of healing past experiences and traumatic states that talk alone cannot always access. Eva believes in the integration of talk and touch work to help those seeking greater coherency in mind and body.
Unlike traditional massage, Trauma Touch Therapy is not focused on physical manipulation but rather on cultivating a sense of safety, presence, and embodiment. It’s particularly supportive for those experiencing symptoms of developmental trauma, complex PTSD, or dissociation.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, incorporating this somatic touch approach can enhance therapeutic outcomes by addressing the physiological imprint of trauma alongside cognitive and emotional processes. Every session is guided by consent, collaboration, and the client’s pace, making it a powerful complement to talk therapy for deeper integration and healing.
Eva is a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist certified to use Trauma Touch Therapy in her practice. Eva has been directly trained by Dr. Kathy Kain and now also provides assistance to new practitioners in learning the art of Trauma Touch Therapy. Clients can discuss with Eva how trauma touch therapy may help their therapeutic process and if they are a good candidate for the work.
Why roots of a tree?
Like the roots you see above, we have a complex nervous system deep within our bodies. These roots hold our experiences via feeling and sensation. Memories are imprinted like a fingerprint on the nervous system within our bodies. The body is so intelligent to remember all it can in an effort to help us survive AND thrive. It not only catalogs the negative, but the positive light bursts of our lives too. This network holds the survival energy, health and wellness we need to be fully present in our lives with all the emotions and sensations a human can experience.
The brain receives the information from this root system held within our bodies. Instead of working only with what the brain has “concluded,” why not work with the roots of the system itself? Here we can touch into the truth of what the body is holding and is working so hard to communicate. Touch has the ability to support movement of whatever may be stuck psychically, physically and emotionally in order to help the system to conclude unfinished business. Elements of ourselves that are hidden can come forward when working with the body through supportive and safe touch. This work is organic and a process of discovery that the therapist can support alongside each client.
